When Melanie Finkleman, principal of Hazel and Brown Design, set out to renovate this 17-year-old home in Vancouver, the original design was dated, with a dark, eclectic mix of maroon floor tile, cherry cabinets and polished gold fixtures. €œIt's a character house, but we wanted it to have a more modern feel,€ she says.

While the hexagonal tiles, oak cabinetry and black accents bring this bathroom into 2020, Finkleman also included elements that vibe with the home's traditional exterior: think subway tile wainscoting, polished nickel faucets and textured wicker baskets. The result is a contemporary (but not too contemporary) master that still feels at home in an older house.
