For Squamish residents anticipating the return of Refresh Market, the wait is a little shorter than usual. The giant indie market is making its September debut next weekend, September 14 and 15 (in previous years, the market popped up in April and November only).
The market's focus on ethical consumption is reflected in the vendors: artists, makers and designers from across B.C. showcasing their handmade wares. New vendors make up 50 percent of this season's roster—notable Refresh rookies include Merge, a Tofino lifestyle shop with the softest earrings around, and Pinto Projects, a Sunshine Coast artist toting handmade ceramics.
In addition to clothing, jewelry and art, the market also serves artisan foods, has a coffee and ice cream bar, and a spot where you can get a tarot reading. Perhaps the cards will tell you exactly which artisan candle you need in your life.
