This pretty, airy clothing store on the North Shore serves up interior design inspo alongside fashion.

When Morey and Jennifer Chaplicks moved to the North Shore from Toronto a few years back, they felt like something was missing from their new neighbourhood: the upscale fashion boutiques they had loved to shop in back home. But rather than lament this lack of shopping options, the couple decided to do something about it by opening their own beautifully curated store: Ami Boutique. “We’ve always had our hand in some sort of business,” laughs Morey. “We are the proverbial entrepreneurs.”For the design of their new North Van store, the Chaplicks’ took their shopping philosophy—”start with the classics and then mix in that stand-out piece”—and applied it to the interiors, with the help of Māk Interiors.A palette of soft whites gives the space a breezy, clean and classic look, but there are design details that bring the airy space to life: a triangular tile that wraps around the cash desk; rattan rugs break up the layout with texture; pops of greenery add in a natural touch. They stock the shelves with a carefully curated collection of brands: think Rachel Comey, Alice and Olivia and Rag and Bone. “We wanted to keep it simple, elegant and uncluttered,” says Morey. “But with a relaxed, Southern California vibe.”It’s SoCal by way of Toronto by way of the North Shore: a round-about journey that resulted in something beautiful.
