Designed with straight lines and available in one shade of black, these hyper-minimalist faucets are still somehow playful.

Though the faucets the late Paik Sun Kim designed for Aboutwater by Boffi and Fantini are sleek, modern and serious in their simplicity and efficiency, I couldn’t help but feel a twinge of delight when I encountered these fixtures a few weeks back. Instead of hovering in wait over the sink, the AK/25 Swivel spout tucks into a tidy, linear package.

As studious and thoughtful an example of industrial design as it is, as sober and serious as the modern matte gunmetal-black finish is, this collection also turns the concept of what a faucet should look like on its head—and what could be more whimsical than that?

You can get the faucets in an “open” format, but who would want to deprive themselves the life-changing-magic-of-tidying-up feeling that comes with folding away the spout so neatly after use? The tub-filler and shower system (available in floor-, wall-, or deck-mount options) are equally pleasing to the part of your brain that loves to see everything neatly squared away. Straight lines, one finish, and I’m still totally charmed—well played, Kim. Pricing on request, available at Cantu.
