Always wanted to sample 17 different dumplings at once? Nows your chance.
Vancouver, are you ready to devour more than 13, 000 dumplings in four short hours? On Sunday August 9 from 12:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m., 17 of Vancouver’s top restaurants will compete to win the Golden Dumpling Cookoff, a now 3-year-old tradition. Held for the first time at Red Truck Beer Company (295 East 1st Avenue), the event includes both a dumpling cookoff and a dumpling derby where eight men and eight women will compete to see how many dumplings they can eat in a matter of minutes.A Dumpling Passport ($55, available at Eventbrite) gets you dumplings from each of the 17 participating restaurants (watch out for Maenam, who won the contest last year) and refreshments from Red Truck and Happy Planet. All Dumpling Passport proceeds benefit the Chinese Elders Community Kitchen. For more information visit The Golden Dumpling’s website.
