IDS Vancouver, the West Coasts premiere design show, is announcing a line-up that combines both online and offline events, talks, and experiences.
Running from October 1 to 8, IDS 2020 is featuring virtual programming with local and international designers, as well as exhibitions and installations that visitors can explore in person while adhering to physical distancing best practices.
“It's a testament to the commitment and creativity of this community that we're able to proceed in this way, says IDS Vancouver Director, Jody Phillips. Together, we're creating a memorable and thought-provoking experience for anyone interested in design. And the wonderful thing is, this year, people from around the globe can also take part.
This year's theme of Natural Wonder has Vancouver-based designers creating experiential and contemplative events that explore the interplay between nature and design. Adhering to provincial social distancing safety protocols, locals are invited to experience these installations at sites throughout the city. Most of these events are taking a “walk-through” format, with guests moving through the spaces in groups under six people.
Highlights of this year's events include:
Digital Fair
One of IDS's most popular features is going online. The Digital Fair provides design enthusiasts with an opportunity to connect with individual designers and brands online through live video and chat, giving visitors the opportunity to experience new launches, products, and ideas. Prospective exhibitors are invited to apply by September 28.
WONDERMENT
Design lovers are invited to walk through a garden and forest installation to explore the connection between self and nature. Created with regional materials, WONDERMENT is a spatial installation that is being designed and brought to life by Studio Block x LM Studio.
Karin Bohn Live – Design and Diversity
Vancouver-based interior designer and star of Netflix's Restaurants on the Edge, Karin Bohn is giving a live streaming talk about the inclusivity and diversity and how design can help foster change. Plus, choose from over 20+ AIBC- and IDCEC- accredited seminars to attend.
Western Living's DOTY Awards Gala
IDS Vancouver and Western Living are proud to bring you the virtual Designers of the Year Awards Gala on IDS digital platform. Free to register, this virtual gala is your chance to meet with the Designers of the Year 2020.
Most of this year’s events are free of charge, with some live events accepting donations for their charitable partners. View the complete schedule of events and register today!
