This one’s for the oenophiles.

1. On the Case

Wine racks are usually hidden in dark cellars but designer Terry Johal broke from tradition when he designed this sleek tasting room. The LED-lit wall draws your eye to an impressive collection of whites and red (which you can read all about on the tablet device that seemingly floats within the case). Read more about this modern wine room.

2. Up High

The rest of this “Calgarifornian” home (which also won our 2017 WL Home of the Year!) has a light, bright, white colour palette (did you see all that marble?!), but the wine room has a noticeably moodier aesthetic. And that gorgeous millwork? It’s taken all the way up to the ceiling to emphasize the height of the room. See more of this Paul Lavoie-designed home.

3. Another Time and Place

This wine cellar designed by fashion designer Paul Hardy transports you to a different era—it’s filled with materials from an old French mercantile (and the racks, pallets and flooring were all reclaimed from French vineyards). See more of this dramatic interior.

4. History Lesson

Every space in this elegant Calgary home—including the 3,000-bottle (!) wine room—was created with materials that straddle past and present. To wit: the brick was sourced from a building that survived the Great Chicago Fire of 1871, so you can take in a piece of history while sipping your fave vino. See more of this traditional-meets-contemporary house.

5. Sweet Slope

Everything about Native Shoes founder Scott Hawthorn’s Okanagan home is incredible, but it’s the wine cellar—tucked into the slope of his orchard and surrounded by lush greenery—that really takes our breath away. See more of this picture-perfect property.

6. Zero Complications

Wine storage doesn’t have to be complicated. In this Calgary home designed by Renova Luxury Renovations, bottles are kept in a simple glass case—the entire installation requires only two screws into the wall and two into the floor. See more of this Calgary renovation.JoieFarm Home

7. Easy Access

You may expect vintners to have a show-stopping wine cave, but at this Naramata home—formerly owned by Heidi Noble (pictured) of JoieFarm Winery—the 500-bottle system is on the main floor, where it’s easy to access on a daily basis. See more of this rustic modern Naramata home.
