Rediscover the beauty in found objects and bid on unique garden planters created using materials and rescued items from ReStore Vancouver with supplies provided by Rust-Oleum. Competing in this DIY challenge are 10 Vancouver tastemakers, including Dunia Tozy of Shaw TV, Christie Lohr of Style Nine to Five, Meagan Faye of LivingBoldly.ca, and Western Living’s own Julia Dilworth. With Plants and flowers provided by Cedar Rim Nursery, 100 percent of the proceeds go towards benefitting Habitat for Humanity Greater Vancouver.
The show starts with a bang as local favourites Big Rock Brewery and Steel Toad Brewery face off on the Cooking Stage in an ultimate burger and beer-pairing showdown. Get there early to grab a seat close to the sizzle and cheer on your favourite duo. (Wednesday, February 17, 6 p.m).
Take a moment to slow down and learn the time-honoured traditions of pickling, canning and at-home cheesemaking from some of Vancouver’s best culinary artisans and slow living experts, including Juniper head chef Sarah Stewart and Executive Chef Clement Chan of Torafuku. They will demonstrate step-by-step how to preserve your homegrown or store-bought fruits and veggies for months to come.
As last summer’s drought so glaringly showed us, it’s more important than ever to be wise about our water consumption, especially when it comes to cultivating your garden. In the Water Wise Feature Garden, landscaping experts Jovak Landscaping, Transformations Landscaping and Azuro Concepts have come together to design 5,000 square feet of innovative green space that show visitors beautiful and clever ways to incorporate everything from recycled water to synthetic turf into your outdoor space.
Looking to transform a room but not sure how to take it to the next step? Bring your wild ideas, along with swatches and samples to the Ask a Designer exhibit and let the professionals, including Friendly Decorator’s Christine Friend, work their decor magic in 10-minute-or-less complimentary consultations.
Pamper your pup with a home makeover of their very own. Watch as five top local designers transform a basic dog house into a cozy dwelling Snoopy could only dream of, all up for silent auction in support of the BCSPCA. All proceeds raised will go towards rescuing, protecting and caring for the animals in need.
After a full day of inspiration—or at any point during the day for that matter—let your creative genius come to fruition over a glass of local wine in the comfort of the Floform Lounge, designed by Gemstone Masonry and Landscape Supply and proudly presented by Western Living. Cheers to fabulous home improvements in 2016!
