These prints from photographer Janis Nicolay are the perfect finishing touch to your latest home makeover.

My kitchen’s been getting a mini-update—namely, a fresh coat of paint to give it a more modern look (clean white on the walls, glossy black on the cabinets). It’s now the perfect palette for a few colourful accessories: those great ombre cannisters I mentioned last week, and now, some bold artwork. I’ve been exploring etsy.com for inspiration (a tip I picked up from designer Kelly Deck many years ago), and discovered one of my favourite Western Living photographers, the ridiculously talented Janis Nicolay, has her own Etsy shop. She spends a lot of time in Australia with her husband, Evoke’s Rob Edmonds, so not surprisingly, there are great location shots from its beaches and small towns. But she’s a west coaster at heart, so you’ll find gorgeous details of cherry blossoms and dogwood. Perfect for a pretty detail on a kitchen wall.Original prints by Janis Nicolay, from $34, available at etsy.com/shop/PineconeCamp
