Sure, it needs some work…but what do you expect for $18.6 million?

Ellen (who has ascended to that rarified single-name territory) and partner Portia di Rossi have a pretty spectacular eye when it comes to SoCal real estate, and their seemingly bottomless pot of money means that they can frequently indulge in their passion for luxe properties. There’s the Beverly Hills house, there’s the horse ranch north of L.A., a mid-century in L.A.’s classic Trousdale neighbourhood. And then there’s the Santa Barbara spot that’s currently on the market for just a hair under $40 million, and we assume she’s motivated given that she just bought this spot a short drive away in Carpinteria. The positives are obvious—it’s 1.13 acres, it’s walk-on waterfront, it’s almost 6,000 square feet. But are we the only ones that think the old owners could have sprung to resurface the tennis court before asking almost $20 million? Still we’d be willing to give it try for a weekend—even if it means crashing in the bizarre bunkbed room.
