We ask Shape Architecture’s Nick Sully to share his thoughts on sustainable design.

Nick - QEShape Architecture was a recent winner of two City of Vancouver 2014 Urban Design Awards for Outstanding Sustainable Design and Architectural Design Excellence. We caught up with principal Nick Sully for our January issue to ask:Should sustainable design be the standard for architects?“Sustainability is just part of good design; it shouldn’t be a gimmick. We’re striving for regeneration—for us, that means trying to understand the natural context of the environment and the systems in which we build, so that we can address some of the negative consequences of unchecked development. And there’s a lot we can learn from the past: one of those things is the human scale with which cities were built. Not just at the scale of craft and detailing, but also the scale of how people lived together in neighbourhoods and cities.”
